Vehicles in commercial service can harvest data while in operation

ERTMS Solutions has reached a momentous milestone with the introduction of our products in passenger trains! With the On-board Balise Monitoring Tool system (OBMT), vehicles in commercial service can harvest asset data while in operation.

ERTMS Solutions has supplied INFRABEL with a total of 5 units of OBMT. These instruments will be installed on passenger trains Siemens Desiro. Installing the systems on a series of vehicles in commercial service allows Infrabel to obtain maximum coverage of the railway network.

Infrabel needed a tool to be able to:

  • provide real-time monitoring of ETCS telegrams from the onboard system
  • monitor their status
  • report the information directly to the General Maintenance System of Infrabel

The OBMT is a passive acquisition and monitoring device developed by ERTMS Solutions. The non-disruptive approach works by collecting real-time messages that are exchanged between various ERTMS OBU sub-systems (such as the EVC, JRU, and STMs) and transferring this information to configurable application software.

Any potential (or manifested) problem generates an alarm that triggers a maintenance activity inside INFRABEL maintenance systems.

The passive measuring system is connected to the ERTMS on-board equipment without affecting safety or availability, and without requiring costly recertification of the vehicle.
