SNCB/NMBS, the Belgian passenger train operator, has entrusted ERTMS Solutions with the delivery of their new automatic data analysis application for onboard train registration devices.
manages the risks around train exploitation
monitors train drivers competence, vigilance, and behavior
detects engine and infrastructure anomalies
through the decoding, enrichment, and analysis of Juridical Recording Unit (JRU) data.
ERTMS Solutions did build a solution with 3 components:
- JRU data decoding: from vendor-specific binary formats to human-readable values
- Visualization front-end: provides tabular and graphical representations of enriched data in the JRU
- Analysis engine: uses the Logic.Tools semantic intelligence to enrich JRU data with other data sources (infrastructure, HR systems, maintenance, etc.) and detect anomalies (infractions, equipment failures, unusual behavior, abnormal wear, non-green driving, etc.)
“The AMELIE project has been live for more than a year and is used by about 250 users in a web-based application,” says Bruno Nijs, IT Business Manager & Expert at SNCB/NMBS. “ERTMS Solutions and Logic.Tools interacted well with our team and were flexible when managing this project with SNCB/NMBS business and IT users. This made it a success, resulting in a stable and performing tool. We are all very satisfied to see positive results coming out from our analysis.”
Belgian passenger train operator SNCB aims to be the obvious choice for comfortable and sustainable mobility in Belgium. Its chief goal: satisfied customers who consider the train to be the obvious solution to meet their mobility needs. As one of Belgium’s largest employers and a key provider of mobility solutions, SNCB is committed to continually investing in customer-oriented, on-time, safe and comfortable passenger transport. The SNCB teams are always working to offer customer-friendly and functional train stations, to promote inter-modal connectivity, to maintain and refurbish trains and to reliably transport passengers to their destination. Every single day, they put the customer first.
Since 2008, ERTMS Solutions has grown to become an industry leader in railways’ signalling testing, maintenance, and JRU decoding and analysis. Known most notably in the ERTMS world but also active in legacy signalling systems, ERTMS Solutions continues to work closely with key actors in the railway sector, such as Railways Manufacturers, Infrastructure Managers, and Operators. In addition to all the inhouse developed products and tools, ERTMS Solutions is committed to innovation and out-of-the-box thinking to help its customers face the evolving needs of the industry, as well as to supporting them when reacting to railways parts obsolescence.
Logic.Tools is a Belgian company, based in Brussels. It provides logic and semantic driven solutions for all markets driven by laws and or procedure. In a world where regulations are ever changing or where corporations are constantly adapting their business models and offers to optimize their transactions with consumers, you need to go way beyond traditional programming and adopt semantic intelligence. Logic.Tools express the essence of your organization. The most sophisticated systems are described by a few hundred artifacts, several orders of magnitude less than the corresponding functionality expressed in any common programming language. This utterly compact representation is achieved by combining two elements. The ontology describes the application domain, the concepts, their attributes, constraints, axioms, using the W3C standard language OWL. The business rules define relationships and behaviors on this ontology, using pure logic, free from side effects, inconsistencies, or contradictions, free from explicit sequencing, expressed in SWRL, the standard rules language for the semantic web.
